The Hampshire Collaboration for Health Research and Education is a collaboration between the University of Winchester and Hampshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. Part of the University's wider Health and Wellbeing Research and Knowledge Exchange profile, it aims to increase research and education opportunities for both partners.

Collaborative work

Sports Science collaborative work

The NHS and University sport scientists are:

  • Exploring the links between physical activity and mild to moderate depression
  • Establishing the model for shared academic and clinical supervision of doctoral students
  • Developing a WhatsApp-supported physical activity intervention in Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD)
  • Carrying out ongoing collaborative research into Biomechanics and Orthopaedics

Psychology collaborative work

The NHS and University psychologists are currently collaborating on a number of projects:

  • Optimising male patients' surgical treatment decisions in urology
  • Developing a multidisciplinary test battery to monitor concussion recovery 
  • Understanding symptoms and improving quality of life in Haemochromatosis
  • Physical activity for older adults in hospital

Health and Social Care collaborative work

University health and social care academics are working with nurse managers and tream leaders on scoping a project to explore nurses’ experiences of anxiety in the workplace.

  • Developing collaborative roles following postgraduate studies (e.g.health economics expertise)
  • 'Life after PhD' opportunities and establishing an innovation research reputation
