We have a range of outstanding and great value accommodation at Winchester for you to pick from. We'll also guarantee* you a room in University Managed Accommodation (on-campus and off-campus) to all first year full-time undergraduates whose housing application is received by 31 May 2019.

What's on offer?

Burma Road Student Village

Our modern Burma Road accommodation is adjacent to the King Alfred campus and consists of 499 en-suite rooms arranged in flats of eight with shared kitchens and two one bedroom family flats. All rooms are finished to a high standard and contain energy-conscious features such as motion sensor lighting systems.

Access is by a secure swipe card system and there are lockable cupboards in all kitchens.

There are 6 bedrooms (and their associated kitchens) adapted for wheelchair users.

Residents have the brand new University Gym on their doorstep along with a laundrette and easy access to all the facilities on offer on the King Alfred Campus. There are designated quiet areas and flats set aside for mature (21 and over) students.

Unlimited internet access is included in the rent.

Queen's Road Student Village

Our vibrant Queen's Road Student Village opened in 2010 and consists of 399 en-suite rooms arranged in flats of four to eight rooms, with shared kitchens. There are 23 twin rooms available and one room adapted for a wheelchair user.

Residents have access to the laundrette, shop and other facilities available on the King Alfred Campus and the University gym is just a short walk away at Burma Road. There are designated quiet areas and flats set aside for mature (21 and over) students.

Access to the blocks and flats is by a secure swipe card entry system and every resident has a lockable cupboard in their kitchen.

Unlimited internet access is included in the rent.

West Downs Student Village

Our inspirational West Downs Student Village, is a self-catered residence just a few hundred metres away from the King Alfred Campus. Room are arranged in houses and flats of six to eight rooms. There is a mixture of ensuite and shared facility rooms and some one and two bedroom family flats.

En-suite rooms are single occupancy and feature their own shower, toilet and sink.

Shared bathroom facility rooms are single occupancy and feature their own vanity unit (sink, mirror and cupboard). There are 2 separate showers and 2 separate toilets per house.

Mature students are welcome to apply for University Managed Accommodation, we endeavour to set aside designated flats/houses for mature (24 and over) students across all our accommodation where possible.

Residents have the benefit of a shop, laundrette, cafe and 24-hour vending with the University Gym and catering outlets just a short walk away.

Catered Accommodation

We have three halls of residence available for students who have a preference for catered accommodation:

  • St Elizabeths
  • Beech Glade

They are located on our beautiful King Alfred quarter and are a 15 minute walk away from Winchester city centre.

Each one of our catered accommodation is a traditional hall of residence, set up with rooms arranged along communal corridors with shared bathrooms and kitchenettes at various points. Many rooms boast beautiful views across Winchester and the South Downs and all rooms are larger than average single study bedrooms. Each room also has it’s own vanity area, with washbasin and mirror above.

The catering element works on a part board basis and each resident has a flexible weekly catering allowance automatically loaded on to their Campus Card. Residents use their allowance to pay for items in the University catering outlets as they wish. Students are free to spend the allowance as they wish over the course of the week but should be able to cover approximately 14 meals a week. The kitchenettes in the halls provide facilities for cooking small meals and snacks.

Balfour House

We have a fantastic range of luxurious student accommodation in the Winnall area of Winchester.

Move into a contemporary two or three bedroom apartment with a fully equipped kitchen which includes crockery, pots, pans and utensils as well as a washing machine and dishwasher. There is also a furnished lounge area and a bathroom with a shower.

Each spacious bedroom includes a double bed with bedding, workspace and TV. On a sunny day, relax outside on the gorgeous decking area.

Balfour House is managed by the University, which means we act as your landlord. All utility bills, broadband and TV license are included in the rent – so it’s easy to budget – and you also benefit from a weekly cleaning service, and a linen and laundry service!

Cathedral Point & Riverside Way

Cathedral Point opened in the Summer of 2018 and is situated close to Winchester rail station. Riverside Way opened in September 2017 and is situated in Winnall, close to the City Centre.

Both areas comprise of approximately 250 en-suite rooms, arranged in flats of between 6-8 students, as well as 61 studio flats.

There is also a large communal space for all residents to use and the management team often arrange a wide variety of social events to include all residents.

The accommodation and the student’s contract are managed by a dedicated and professional team who work in partnership with the University to ensure all student residents are supported through the duration of their stay.

University Managed Housing

University Managed Houses are properties off campus that we rent from local landlords and sub-let to our full-time students. Properties are usually let to 2nd, 3rd or 4th year students but may also be reserved for first-year students.

For September 2019 entry, there will be University Managed Houses available for first-year students. These are let on a 41 week licence agreement and rooms are allocated in the same way as on-campus residences. Students may select University Managed Housing as an option on their housing application.

If you live in a University Managed House, the University is your landlord. The friendly off-campus housing team in Student Housing Services will deal with any issues or concerns including maintenance and general help and advice and you pay your rent directly to the University. All properties are accredited by Winchester City Council and range from 3 to 7 bedrooms in size. All are self-catered and have shared bathroom and kitchen facilities. All are designated non-smoking.
